TEAMSTERS JOINT COUNCIL 94 ENDORSES ANDY BESHEAR FOR KENTUCKY GOVERNOR
Louisville, Kentucky – June 18th, 2019: Teamsters Joint Council 94 today announced that they would be endorsing Andy Beshear for Governor of Kentucky. The election will be held on Tuesday, November 5th, and will pit Beshear against incumbent Governor Matt Bevin.
“We are proud to endorse Andy Beshear, who we know will do everything in his power to restore the rights workers in the Commonwealth have had torn away from them by the Bevin administration,” said Joint Council 94 President Fred Zuckerman. “This is not about party affiliation; this is about what’s best for the working families of our great state. Kentucky’s workers need a pro-worker Governor in office, and that person is Andy Beshear.”
Beshear, who has served as Attorney General since 2015, has used his position as Kentucky’s top law enforcer to take strong stances in favor of the Commonwealth’s working people. He was a fierce opponent of so-called “Right-to-Work” and the repeal of Prevailing Wage. In 2018, Beshear successfully sued to stop the Bevin Administration’s implementation of an unconstitutional public pension bill which would have decimated the pension plans of thousands of Kentucky teachers and public employees.
Since 2015, Governor Matt Bevin has been at the forefront of the War on Workers. Bevin has rolled back countless laws and regulations that protected the working people of Kentucky. He spearheaded using an “emergency” declaration to pass the extremely anti-union “Right-to-Work” legislation and repealed Kentucky's Prevailing Wage all in the first few days of the 2017 session. Since then, he has gone on to attack Workers Compensation, Unemployment Insurance, Public Employee Pensions and many other pro-working family protections.
“We can’t afford to sit on the sidelines and be silent while Matt Bevin decimates the rights of working people in our state,” said John Stovall, a Trustee for Joint Council 94 and President of Local 783. “Workers are under attack today like never before in our lifetimes, and we need an ally like Andy Beshear in office to help us fight back against these attacks.”
