RCS LAP/ KTP AUTOPORT UPDATE With trips to the World Ford headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan and to Local 938 in Toronto Canada and with the help of Local, State & Federal politicians Local 89 was successful in saving 435 jobs at the Ford facilities at the Kentucky Truck Plant (K.T.P.) & the Louisville Assembly Plant (L.A.P.). On May 27th President Fred Zuckerman and Recording Secretary Avral Thompson traveled to Canada to negotiate a contract with Autoport. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in this fight to save these jobs. A special thank you to the Members that are employed at K.T.P. and L.A.P.; without your help and trust in your Union this would not have been possible. Please check back for updates on the agreement as they become available. AUTOPORT UPDATE On May 21, 2008 Local 89 was contacted by Autoport, during this call Autoport agreed to recognize the Union and is going to begin calling our members to start work on June 2nd. Fred and Avral will be going to meet with Autoport on May 27th. Local 89 has received information that Autoport has contacted the employment agency & cancelled all interviews which were scheduled for May 6th, 7th & 8th. All who were scheduled should contact the unemployment office for verification.
