Jeffrey S Cooper, Trustee

I am a 3rd generation Teamster! I joined Local 89 in the
summer of 1990 while working at Jeffboat. During my
tenure with Jeffboat I worked various jobs in different
areas of the Shipyard; I started out Tacking in the
Sub/Assembly and quickly advanced to a 1st class Welder
in Rakes and Sterns where I served as a Section Steward
for the Union. During a reduction in force I was moved
to Line 4 Tankers where I spent the biggest part of my
time welding the overhead in the bottoms and once again
served as a Section Steward for the Union. I bid into a
Pipefitter Leaner position in the Pipe Gang where I
finished my time with Jeffboat and went to work for
American Air Filter as a Welder/SteelFitter and Steward
and was elected to serve on the election committee for
the Officers elections. In February of 1994 I went to
work in the Carhaul Industry in the yard classification
at the Kentucky Truck Plant and served as Chief Steward
for about six years. I came to work for Local 89 in
January of 2000 and have served as Assistant to the
President representing various companies in the
Construction and Building Trades Fields. Though out my
career I have made my participation in the Union a
priority, just as my father and grandfather did. I was
always willing to participate in activities such as
Union rallies, contract negotiations, grievance
proceedings, and strike support for my fellow union
brothers and sisters. I have always believed in the
Unions and felt an obligation to help keep it strong
just as my father, grandfather and so many other good
Union bothers and Sisters have kept this Union strong.
