Teamsters 89 Response to HB 404 Memo
Feb 27, 2017

Feb 27, 2017

It has come to our attention that a memo was passed out, via courier, to Kentucky legislators that included logos for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) and UPS. This memo purports that a “new compromise” has been reached in regards to House Bill 404. It heavily uses the Teamsters name and has several mentions of language in the National Master Agreement in an attempt to imply we have changed our position and are now in agreement with UPS on this bill.

This is categorically and unequivocally false. Teamsters 89 had no prior knowledge of this memo, has not authorized the use of the IBT logo, and has not, in any way, come to a compromise agreement with UPS. In fact, the IBT logo featured on this memo is outdated and has not been used for decades. We have contacted the IBT about this memo, the unauthorized use of our logo and false claims of a change in position, and they are currently investigating this matter further.

Teamsters 89 testified strongly against House Bill 404 when it first came to committee, and we continue to strongly oppose it today. We condemn the use of any logo associated with the IBT without express authorization, and we condemn the implication that we have changed position on House Bill 404 when we most certainly have not.

We encourage our friends in Frankfort to continue to vote against House Bill 404 as originally written. You can read more about our reasons for opposing HB 404 on our website via the following link:
