Thanks to the combined efforts of many Teamster members in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, House Bill 135 concerning autonomous vehicles was defeated in the Senate Transportation Committee meeting last week. A last-ditch effort to attach the language to an unrelated bill on the Senate floor on the final day of the session was also defeated.

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY – Approximately 190 ABM Shuttle Drivers who transport UPS employees to their job sites at UPS Worldport have joined Teamsters Local 89 in one of the largest organizing victories in Louisville’s modern history. In addition to being a historic win due to the number of workers involved, it was also achieved in an unprecedented fashion.

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY – Sysco Delivery Drivers represented by Teamsters Local 89 have rejected their employers “Last, Best and Final Offer” by a resounding 88 percent due primarily to concerns about safety, quality of life, wages, and benefits.

After months of slow-walking negotiations, Sysco management submitted a “Last, Best and Final Offer” to the Teamsters Local 89 negotiating committee last week. Today, Sysco drivers met at our union hall for a contract explanation meeting and vote. Local 89 and the rank-and-file bargaining committee gave a thorough explanation of the offer and recommended a no vote.

Teamsters Local 89 President Avral Thompson and Vice President Brian Hamm share a brief update on negotiations for the UPS Louisville Air Rider, which covers all Local 89 members at UPS Worldport.

Today the Teamsters Local 89 committee met with UPS to begin negotiations for the Louisville Air Rider, an agreement covering all members of Local 89 working at UPS Worldport. This session marks the official start of bargaining and follows a preliminary meeting two-weeks prior for the initial exchange of proposals.

Today a retirement celebration was held at the AMDC facility at UPS Worldport. The three recently or soon to be retired members included James Spriggs, Dan Karrer and Rob Arnold, all of whom have been at UPS for at least forty years. Arnold is number one overall in seniority for all of UPS Worldport, and was a day one hire when the UPS Air District was first created in 1981.

On Friday, November 18th, workers from Caesars Southern Indiana represented by Teamsters Local 89, Unite Here Local 23, and Operating Engineers Local 399 participated in a picket training exercise on Main Street in New Albany, Indiana.
