GENEVA – In a letter addressed to Michael Reich, CEO of DSI Underground headquartered in Munich, Germany, IndustriALL Global Union has called on DSI to enter into good faith collective bargaining with Teamsters Local 89 in Louisville, Kentucky.
IndustriALL Global Union represents over fifty million workers in mining, energy and manufacturing industries in over 140 countries – including DSI employees across Europe. Speaking on behalf of IndustriALL, General Secretary Valter Sanches reminds Mr. Reich that the International Brotherhood of Teamsters is an affiliate to IndustriALL Global Union, and calls on him to respect the decision of his workers to become members of Teamsters Local 89.
In the letter, which is attached to this post, General Secretary Sanches condemns DSI’s anti-union tactics, including the hiring of union busters to perform surface bargaining, and calls for the company to desist in its “delaying schemes, lack of cooperation, unreasonable proposals, and efforts to divide the workforce” and instead come to the negotiating table in good faith to reach a first contract.
President Zuckerman, Secretary-Treasurer Thompson and everyone at Teamsters Local 89 wishes to express our sincere thanks to IndustriALL Global Union for this display of international union solidarity and cooperation. We would also like to thank Tim Beaty, Director of Global Strategies for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters for helping to bring IndustriALL Global Union into this fight.
Our DSI Tunneling members continue to be strengthened and resolved by the amazing displays of support and solidarity they have received since their strike for a fair first contract began. It is our hope that management at DSI will do the right thing and choose to end their anti-union tactics and negotiate a fair first contract. Until then, they will find us proudly manning the picket line.
