This morning, workers at DSI Tunneling in Louisville, Kentucky voted by 79% to become members of Teamsters Local 89.
DSI Tunneling workers perform highly skilled jobs, manufacturing steel support beams and girders for tunneling and mining operations. Their products are used in major projects across the country.
“We are excited to welcome the workers at DSI Tunneling into our Local 89 family,” said President Fred Zuckerman. “We look forward to helping them fight for what they deserve in their first contract, and we will use any and all resources at our disposal to do so.”
Local 89 wishes to thank Bryan Trafford, an organizer for Local 89, and John Palmer, Southern Region Vice President and lifelong organizer, who led this organizing campaign alongside DSI Tunneling workers.
“I’m so happy for these guys,” said Trafford. “The Company tried to union-bust them for weeks before their election, but a lot of these guys have worked together for a long time, so they stuck together. They’re Teamsters now, and I’m very proud that I was part of their fight.”
Moving forward, Teamsters Local 89 will begin scheduling meetings for our new DSI Tunneling members to elect stewards, begin taking contract proposals, and prepare these workers for their contract fight.
