Today, General President James P. Hoffa announced in a memorandum to all Local Unions that he will not be seeking re-election at the end of his current term.
It has been a long time since Teamsters Local 89 supported a decision made by GP Hoffa.
We did not support his decision to implement regional UPS contracts, including the Louisville Air Rider, in 2013.
We did not support his decision to implement the UPS National Master Agreement and other regional contracts, again including the Louisville Air Rider, in 2018.
We did not support his decision to not bring all parties to the table in Freight negotiations, resulting in weaker, splintered contracts.
We did not support his decision to continually send out sub-par agreements in Carhaul over and over until one finally passed.
We have not supported many of the decisions and positions GP Hoffa has taken, especially in recent years.
But that changed today, because Teamsters Local 89 fully and enthusiastically supports GP Hoffa's decision to retire.
