Teamsters Local 89 is excited to welcome Danelle Barbour as the newest addition to our union’s staff!
Danelle’s family has an extensive union history, resulting in her being raised in a strong pro-labor environment. Her father, aunts and uncles retired from BCTGM Local 16, her mother, brothers, and several cousins and nephews are current members in UAW Local 862, and she has one nephew who is a fellow Local 89 member. Danelle first became a Teamster in 2018 when she began working at Transervice, where she drove semi-truck deliveries out of Louisville’s Kroger Distribution Center. She takes pride in knowing that the Teamsters union has each other’s backs and holds strong to our union’s philosophy that if you mess with one Teamster, you mess with all Teamsters.
Since becoming a member, Danelle has been heavily active in our Local Union. She began representing her co-workers as a Steward in 2021, she volunteered to work on Local 89 organizing and political drives in 2022 and 2023, and she has consistently visited picket lines to offer support at Fire King, Sysco, DHL, Ford and others. Danelle has attended multiple educational events including Labor Notes and the Teamsters Womens conference, she has participated in numerous Local 89 training and social events and she is always present at our quarterly General Meetings. Danelle also has the distinction of serving as the first elected Vice President for the Teamsters Local 89 Women’s Committee, a fact she takes great pride in.
Danelle will be bringing her union passion to Local 89 as our newest Benefits Coordinator, and will be training under Local 89 Trustee Kim Wolfe, who has been in the Benefits Department her entire career. Danelle will fully take over the Benefits Coordinator position sometime next year upon Kim’s retirement, and will use the time until then to become familiar with this important and complex job.
President Thompson, Secretary-Treasurer Cooper and everyone at Teamsters Local 89 would like to congratulate Danelle on becoming the newest addition to our Union Hall’s staff family, and we look forward to working with her to better serve our rank-and-file members.
