Today a retirement celebration was held at the AMDC facility at UPS Worldport. The three recently or soon to be retired members included James Spriggs, Dan Karrer and Rob Arnold, all of whom have been at UPS for at least forty years. Arnold is number one overall in seniority for all of UPS Worldport, and was a day one hire when the UPS Air District was first created in 1981. Prior to the Air District being created in Louisville, UPS was exclusively a ground shipping company. Arnold was presented a framed photo of himself loading some of the very first UPS Air packages from the early 1980s. Several business agents from Teamsters Local 89 who originated from UPS were in attendance for the celebration, including Vice President Brian Hamm, Recording Secretary Craig Burns and Trustee Vinny Rivera. President Avral Thompson was unfortunately unable to attend as he is currently in Washington D.C. for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters General Executive Board meeting, but referred to the celebration as a very special day that he was sorry he had to miss. During the celebration, a photo was taken of forty plus year UPS Teamsters who were in attendance, including the three the celebration was for. In this photo can be seen: Tim Sauer kneeling in front, and from then from left to right - John Wheeler, Dan Karrer, Kevin Botner, Tammy Lindsey, James Spriggs, Suzanne Stansbury, Glenn Stanbery, Gary Robinson and Rob Arnold. Congratulations to Rob, Dan and James on their retirement and their historic careers at UPS and as members of Teamsters Local 89. From everyone at our union, we wish you the best in your retirement!
