Ronnie Johnson was a proud Teamster member at Fire King, and an influential part of the recent strike at that Company. Sadly, just a short time prior to the strike being won Ronnie suffered from a severe stroke that left him in the hospital. Last Saturday morning, Ronnie tragically lost his battle for recovery and passed away.

It is with deep sorrow that we confirm the dreadful news reports of a death at UPS Worldport last night. While we will refrain from sharing specific details or names out of respect to the deceased and their family, it is true that a young member tragically died by suicide. Although we do not know the cause behind this heartbreaking decision, our Local Union grieves for this terrible loss.

Union representation at UPS Worldport is about to expand with the addition of Jay Dennis as a Business Agent for multiple areas in the Air District. Jay will be taking over as the Agent for Wings C, D, E and Grade Lane Shift on the Next Day Air operation, and for the World Freight Facility on Second Day Air. He will also be taking over as the union chair for the Worldport Shuttle Committee.

On September 23rd Teamsters Local 89 members at Canteen Compass unanimously ratified a new three-year agreement. Economic highlights of the new agreement include improved commission rates, faster vacation accrual, two additional paid holidays, a higher shift premium, improved holiday pay, higher hourly rates and improved pay on Saturdays and Sundays.

Today, Teamsters at Louisville Packaging unanimously rejected a “Last, Best and Final Offer” haphazardly thrown out by the Company via email late Saturday evening.  In addition, the membership voted unanimously to authorize an Unfair Labor Practice strike in response to bad faith bargaining by the Company.

Today Teamsters Local 89 members at Fire King in New Albany, Indiana voted unanimously to ratify a new five-year agreement with their employer, bringing their twelve-week strike to a close with a resounding victory.


Teamsters Day at Kentucky Kingdom is back! On August 28th, Local 89 and Local 783 will be hosting a Teamsters Day event at Kentucky Kingdom. The park has been bought out and only those with Teamsters Day tickets will be allowed to enter. Up to 10 tickets can be purchased, so you are welcome to purchase additional tickets for your family and friends.

In the early hours of Monday morning Teamsters Local 89 members at Fire King began an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) Strike against their Employer. A ULP charge filed with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) stemmed from the Company attempting to circumvent union leadership and the bargaining committee by issuing a letter filled with factually inaccurate information and half-truths.

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY – Teamsters Local 89 and the Charles Booker for Senate Campaign are proud to announce that the Campaign has voluntarily recognized Local 89 as the exclusive bargaining agent for their staff. Proposal meetings with staffers have already been held and preparations for negotiations are well underway.
