On Friday, May 27th, Teamsters at Louisville Packaging overwhelmingly ratified a new three-year agreement.  This new contract is a major step forward for Teamster members at the Louisville based chemical packaging contractor.

Governor Matt Bevin has begun to issue Executive Orders which are legally questionable. Recently Governor Bevin issued an Executive Order regarding the Workers Compensation Nominating Commission (WCNC) which is responsible for screening applicants for Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) for Workers Compensation cases. As you know, ALJs are assigned to resolve workers compensation cases.

Kentucky's Primary Election Day is this Tuesday, May 17th. Teamsters Local 89 encourages all of our members to go to the polls on Tuesday and exercise their right to vote for pro-worker candidates. Teamsters Local 89, along with many other labor organizations in the area, have researched and interviewed the various candidates for the primary races.

YRC Freight and USF Holland are now hiring local cartage and over-the-road drivers. YRC will be seeking a minimum of three local cartage (city) drivers, and two over the road drivers.

Today the IBT Carhaul negotiating committee sent out a memorandum to all affected Local Unions giving a brief update about the Carhaul contract. The memorandum states that the negotiating committee and the employers remain apart on most critical economic issues, including pay retroactivity and the appropriate level of wage increases.

This issue also includes a piece about the women who work at Advance Ready Mix, and several pages of contract, local, and political updates.

On Monday, March 28th a new five-year agreement was overwhelmingly ratified by members at K&T Switching, with only a single vote against. In the past K&T members have always enjoyed strong contract language on working conditions and rules, but have struggled without pay increases, vacation reductions, and loss of holidays due to turbulence in the automobile industry.
