A Tentative Agreement (TA) was reached on Tuesday evening (December 15th) between the Teamsters Local 89 negotiating committee and IMI in Harrodsburg and Lawrenceburg. Some of the highlights of this new TA are as follows: Wage increases of $.70 cents in the first year, $.55 cents in the second year, and $.40 cents in the third year.

As reported in November, Teamsters Local 89 President Fred Zuckerman sent a letter to General President Hoffa asking him to pledge funds to the Pension Rights Center (PRC) to aid them in their fight against the Multiemployer Pension Reform Act (MPRA)

The Pension Rights Center (PRC), a non-profit organization based in Washington D.C. that has defended pensions across America for the last 40 years, have submitted comments to the Treasury Department regarding the Central States Pension Fund (CSPF) Rescue Plan.

Teamsters Local 89 has submitted our comments on the Central States Pension Fund (CSPF) Rescue Plan to the Treasury Department. The stance of Local 89 remains that this rescue plan fails in its purpose to make the CSPF fully solvent.

We are very sorry to report that retired Teamsters 89 member Nelson Kost passed away on Tuesday at the age of 79. Nelson worked for many years as a car hauler at Allied Systems and retired in 1993. He was also a Shriner in the Boaz Masonic Lodge.

We are very sorry to report that former Freight Business Agent and Vice President of Teamsters Local 89, Emmett Nall has passed away at the age of 89. Emmett served Teamsters Local 89 for nearly thirty years as a member, an agent and an elected officer.

In December of 2014 Congress did an unbelievable disservice to the American people by passing the Multiemployer Pension Reform Act (MPRA). MPRA allows underfunded pensions to slash the benefits for active and already retired members. The Central States Pension Fund, to which 9,000 active and retired members of Teamsters Local 89 belong, is by far the largest of the endangered plans.
