ATTENTION MEMBERS OF TEAMSTERS LOCAL 89
Mar 12, 2020 - Over the last forty-eight hours we have seen a rapid evolution of the situation in Kentucky and the rest of the United States involving COVID-19, known more generally as the Coronavirus.
Today, members of Local 89 and Local 783 traveled to Frankfort to participate in a re-enactment of the 1965 "Selma March". This marked the 55th anniversary of the incident that came to be known as "Bloody Sunday".
Today, General President James P. Hoffa announced in a memorandum to all Local Unions that he will not be seeking re-election at the end of his current term.
It has been a long time since Teamsters Local 89 supported a decision made by GP Hoffa.
We did not support his decision to implement regional UPS contracts, including the Louisville Air Rider, in 2013.
Today, Teamsters Local 89 organizers met with management at Quickway on behalf of a majority of the workers employed at the trucking company and demanded recognition of their workers union.
Quickway has voluntarily recognized their workers are now unionized and represented by Teamsters Local 89. We look forward to prompt bargaining dates with the Company.
