On Saturday, October 5th, Teamsters Local 89 members working in the Sort at the DHL CVG Air Hub in Northern Kentucky ratified their first agreement by an overwhelming 92%. This agreement acts as an addendum and fully incorporates Sort workers into the existing DHL CVG Ramp and Tug contract. Workers at Builders FirstSource in Shelbyville, Kentucky have voted to join Teamsters Local 89, becoming the newest shop added to our ever-growing union family. Builders FirstSource workers first reached out to Local 89 at the end of July and began working with Organizer Wes Odle to prepare them for the campaign and subsequent vote.

Teamsters Local 89 members working at AVI have ratified a new three-year agreement by an overwhelming 86% majority. This new agreement covers AVI drivers as it always has, but for the first time it also includes warehouse workers following an organizing victory they achieved just a few months ago.

May 2nd, 2024 – We are proud to announce that Teamsters Local 89 Secretary-Treasurer Jeff Cooper assumed the duties of President for Joint Council 94 (JC94) yesterday following the retirement of Local 783’s John Stovall, who has led JC94 since 2022. Known colloquially as “Coupe” to most, Cooper was raised in a union home and has a long Teamsters history at Local 89.

Teamsters Local 89 members at Clariant, a chemical manufacturing and warehousing facility, ratified a new three-year contract on April 15th. The Agreement passed by an overwhelming 97%, the highest in the shop's modern history. The new contract contains historic economic gains for Clariant members across all classifications.

Workers at the Sysco Louisville Warehouse voted overwhelmingly in favor of ratifying their first contract on Saturday, April 6th. Less than two years ago, there were no organized Sysco workers in Louisville. After last year’s drivers’ contract and this warehouse ratification, Sysco Louisville has over 200 Teamster members, and is nearly wall-to-wall unionized.

In its formative years, Local 89 quickly made a name for itself as a strong, no-nonsense union that was respected and feared throughout our jurisdiction. November 14th, 2023 - This evening an independent election supervisor conducted a nomination meeting for Local 89’s executive board, and the Thompson-Cooper Teamsters United candidates were nominated without opposition. With no other candidates to place on the ballot, the Thompson-Cooper administration was automatically re-elected to serve a new three-year term beginning on January 1st, 2024.
